Success at the RIBA President's Awards for Research

We are delighted that Amy Thomas of The Bartlett School of Architecture has won the prestigious RIBA President's Award for Research in the category of 'Outstanding Master's Degree Thesis' for her 'Mart of the World': an Architectural and Geographical History of the London Stock Exchange.

The RIBA judges described the thesis as: “…a convincing and thorough piece of research which persuasively examines the financial and institutional practices which shaped, and were in turn shaped by, the architecture of the successive homes of the London Stock Exchange – demonstrating a breadth of knowledge exceptional for an MA student”

Amy produced 'Mart of the World' as part of the MA Architectural History programme, supervised by Professor Iain Borden, and the work is also being published as a referred article in the International Journal of Architecture. Amy is now pursuing her PhD on ‘The Square Mile? Spatially Redefining the City of London in the Context of Global Financial Networks', supervised by Professor Iain Borden and Professor Murray Fraser.

Also at the RIBA President's Awards for Research, Edward Denison of the Bartlett School of Architecture received a commendation in the 'Outstanding PhD Thesis' category for his 'Architecture and the Landscape of Modernity in China up to 1949', supervised by Professor Adrian Forty.
