New loos for London?

The recent workshop "New Loos for London?" considered the viability of dry sanitation options for the capital, and brought together key figures involved in the management of waste, water, and sanitation, as well as entrepreneurs, designers, cultural commentators and community members. Organized by Dr. Tse-Hui Teh (Planning), Dr Barbara Penner (Architecture), and PhD candidate Danielle Willkens (Architecture) the two-day event was held over 8-9 November and was supported by a UCL Grand Challenges Small Grant for Sustainable Cities.

"New Loos for London?" included site visits (to London Waste’s EcoPark and Thames Water’s Deephams waste treatment facility), an exhibition of proven and experimental composting toilet systems (Loowatt, Envirolet, Woowoo, Tiger Toilet), and a workshop of focused discussion about the social, legal and political ramifications of alternate sanitation in the city.
