Dr Jacob Paskins PhD success

Jacob Paskins, who is also a tutor on the MArch Architecture programme, passed his PhD examination with examiners Professor Simon Pepper from the University of Liverpool and Professor Adrian Forty from the Bartlett. Jacob's thesis entitled 'The Social Experience of Building Construction Work in and Around Paris During the 1960s' was supervised by Professor Iain Borden and Dr Barbara Penner. The thesis was described by the examiners as a 'very lively and fluent' history which 'takes one into an extraordinary territory' within architectural and urban history. Methodologically, and reflecting on the extensive research into French digital and moving image archives, the examiners also commented that 'we are aware of no other historian in this field who has used television footage for historical research,' and that this innovative process 'brings out the voice of people who otherwise would not have been heard.'
