About

With support from The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London Urban Lab's Postgraduate Urbanists in collaboration with the Development Planning Unit’s BUDD will host a hybrid Reflective Seminar based on the 2022/23 Southern Urbanist Practice Reading and Doing Group. The seminar will be supported by a constellation of Southern Urbanist Researchers and Practitioners from around the world to discuss the findings from the Reading and Doing Group and delve into the principles of Southern Urbanist Practice. The event aims to foster discussions on actionable ways to implement these principles.

The session aims to inspire and equip participants to incorporate Southern Urbanist Practice into their respective urban contexts through thought-provoking conversations, idea exchange, and actionable insights gained throughout the event.

Led by the Reading Group Lead, the session will commence with reflections on the group's collective journey, emphasising key insights derived from readings and activities. The event will feature two panels, each consisting of three presenters who will deliver concise five-minute presentations on topics encompassing ethics, vocabularies, protocols of engagement, and the possible application of Southern values.

Engaging panel discussions will follow, allowing for a deeper exploration of the presented ideas. A short break will offer participants an opportunity to recharge before the second panel, which will follow a similar format. The event will conclude with an open discussion, providing participants with a platform to share thoughts, ask questions, and contribute additional perspectives on Southern Urbanism.
