About

Taught jointly by The Bartlett School of Architecture and UCL's Biochemical Engineering Department, Bio-Integrated Design brings together a spectrum of multi-disciplinary academics, practitioners and students, combining design experimentation with scientific methods, seeking new modes of simulation and production, and exploring how advances in the fields of synthetic biology, material science and digital fabrication are changing future design practices.

Join us for our open day where our Programme Directors Professor Marcos Cruz and Dr Brenda Parker will discuss how designing with biology can respond to, and address, our current environmental crisis. Marcos and Brenda will talk about their philosophy where nature is not just inspiration, but is the medium, for their interdisciplinary programme. They will share some of the current research emerging from Bio-ID, and how architects and biochemical engineers are coming together to work on bioreceptive materials and bioremediation.

There will also be an opportunity for Q&A with the programme directors to talk about the forthcoming year.

Schedule

  • 12:00: Welcome and Introduction to Bio-ID team
  • 12:05: Designing under climate change - the role of bio-integrated design
  • 12:30: Presenting the Bio-ID programme format for 2020-21
  • 12:40: Q&A session with the Bio-ID team
  • 13:25: Wrap up and event close
