‘In the flying underbelly of the city. Steaming hot, and summer on top, outside. Underground. The subway heaped in modern myth.’ A black man meets a white woman in a subway carriage. What follows is a cryptic and at times violent allegorisation of the social dynamics of race, gender, sexuality and class in mid-century America.

Continuing the CSCA’s informal series of film screenings, please join us to watch and discuss the 1967 film Dutchman, directed by Anthony Harvey and starring Shirley Knight and Al Freeman, Jr. The film was based on an eponymous and highly controversial play by Amiri Baraka, née LeRoi Jones, who wrote the screenplay adaptation. The score was written by John Barry.

This screening is organised by Kalvin Schmidt-Rimpler Dinh.
