19 May 2021
We are very pleased to hear that UCL Americas alum Hugo Goeury has just had his first peer-reviewed article published in prestigious journal 'Latin American Perspectives'
Hugo's article 'Rafael Correa’s Decade in Power (2007–2017): Citizens’ Revolution, Sumak Kawsay, and Neo-Extractivism in Ecuador' addresses the tensions between enshrining the indigenous concept of Sumak Kawsay ('Buen Vivir'; 'Good Living') as the guiding principle of Ecuador's 2008 constitution and promoting neo-extractivism as the economic model of President Rafael Correa's Citizens' Revolution. Options to acces the article in full are available here.
Hugo completed his Latin American Politics MSc at UCL Institute of the Americas in 2015. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Sociology at The Graduate Centre, CUNY. Congratulations are in order!
