Patricio Simonetto's busy diary: guest speaker at various upcoming LGBTQ+ seminars

Dr Patricio Simonetto

Dr Patricio Simonetto will be the guest speaker at Birkbeck College on 4 February 2021, 17:00, to deliver his seminar 'A Body of One's Own: The Early Making of ‘Sex Change’ in Argentina, 1900–1930'. Dr Simonetto will be analysing the early making of sex change in Argentina during the first decades of the twentieth century. Read more about this event here and book your place here now!

On 10 February 2021, 16:00 Dr Simonetto will be presenting 'Cotton, makeup and a prosthetic penis: Male and female trans* carnality repertoires in mid 20th century Argentina' at the Histories of Gender and Sexuality Series of the University of Edinburgh. More information on this event here.

Then on 24 February, he will present 'Queens between theatres and the streets.The global making of travestis’ popular culture and daily life technologies', as part of the University of Manchester's Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies' research seminar series. This presentation will analyse the global making of travestis’ culture and how it changes their interpretations and uses of daily technologies. Finally, on 16 March at 17:30, Ernesto Semán (University of Bergen) will talk with Patricio Simonetto (UCL) about Simonetto’s recent book(Opens in new window): El dinero no es todo: Compra y venta de sexo en la Argentina del siglo XX (Buenos Aires: Biblos, 2019), in another edition of the Institute of Historical Research Latin American History Series. Dr Patricio Simonetto joined UCL Institute of the Americas in October 2020 as Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow. His main research focus is the social and cultural history of sexuality in Latin America. His thematic interests include social movements, gender and sexuality, and the social history of medicine. His new research project studies the making of "sex change" in Argentina during the XXth century. He is the author of numerous books, book chapters and journal articles.
