We are delighted to announce that Dr Patricio Simonetto’s new book project, A Body of One’s Own. A Trans* History of Argentina (1900-2021) is under contract with the University of Texas Press.

The monograph places the making of the trans* bodies at the core of modern Argentine history. By analysing primary sources located in public, private and grassroots organizations’ archives and interviews, this monograph addresses crucial themes, from the popular portrayal of people in gender transition to homemade technologies such as the self-injection of silicone. The book analyses the experience of people’s body gender affirmation and its decisive yet overlooked impact on the public discussion surrounding the formation of the Argentine nation-state and definitions of citizenship.
