English version of Patricio Simonetto's book 'El dinero no es todo' to be published in 2022

27 August 2021

El Dinero No Es Todo

We are delighted to announce that Dr Patricio Simonetto's book El dinero no es todo. La compra y venta de sexo en la Argentina del siglo XX has been selected by the UNC-DUKE Consortium in Latin American and Caribbean Studies to be translated into English. The book is expected to be published in 2022 by The University of North Carolina Press.

The Spanish version of this book was published in Argentina in 2019. This monograph studies the everyday sale and purchase of sex in Argentina during the twentieth century. It analyses the making of heterosexual practices in specific contexts: from the global sexual commerce based in Buenos Aires to the circuits of rural production in the provinces. El dinero no es todo addresses the lives of the various actors engaged in this activity: prostitutes, pimps, women who sold sex to complement their low wages; sex providers' husbands and clients; soldiers, police officers, judges, feminists, and doctors, among others.
