This talk by Dr Aaron Bateman (George Washington University) will discuss the Anglo-American space defence relationship during the Cold War, including a special focus on the President Reagan and Margaret Thatcher era, and the way in which the Strategic Defensive Initiative impacted the ‘special relationship.

About the Speaker
Dr Aaron Bateman
Assistant Professor of History and International Affairs at George Washington University
Dr Bateman is also a member of the Space Policy Institute within the Elliott School of International Affairs at GWU. His research has been published widely in several academic journals, and he writes regularly for The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, War on the Rocks and Physics Today.
Dr Bateman’s first book (forthcoming) focuses on President Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative and examines how differing opinions regarding the militarisation of space shaped U.S. foreign relations until the end of the Cold War.
