FAQs

Booking

Do you offer a discount for UCL staff / students / alumni? 

Yes, UCL staff, students and alumni are eligible to receive 10% off their booking. To access this, please email guest-bookings@ucl.ac.uk for the discount code. 

If you are UCL staff, we will check your UCL email address.

If you are a UCL student, please confirm your student number.  

If you are UCL alumni, please confirm your alumni number. On check in you must present your UCL Alumni Card. To get your Alumni card, please email alumni@ucl.ac.uk or call +44 (0)20 3108 3833.

Do you offer accommodation for UCL students or pre-sessional course students over the summer period? 

Yes, UCL has a range of accommodation available for UCL students over the summer period. Click on our summer accommodation webpage to find out more.   

Do you have accessible rooms? 

UCL can provide accessible rooms on some sites, subject to availability. If you or a member of your group has a disability, you should let us know when you book by emailing guest-bookings@ucl.ac.uk so we can ensure suitable accommodation is available.

Can I book a conference room / classroom at the residences? 

A limited number of halls can offer this service. Please check the residence information pages and e-mail guest-bookings@ucl.ac.ukLecture theatres can be booked online.

Can I change my booking to a different residence? 

Each residence is independent, and bookings cannot be swapped. You will need to cancel your initial booking and re-book at another residence (charges may apply). 

Check-in

What time can I check in and check out? 

Check in is after 3pm and check out is before 10am. 

See our individual UCL hall pages for latest check in time. 

We reserve the right to charge an extra night if the room is not vacated by 10am. If you are arriving after 8pm please send us an email in advance to ensure your room is not considered a ‘No Show’. 

How do I check in? 

Please report to the reception of the residence you have booked except for the following:

  • Frances Gardner House - check in is at Langton Close.
  • Ian Baker House - check in is at Ramsay Hall.
  • Max Rayne House - check in is at Ifor Evans Hall.

The Hall Team will ask for photo ID and will issue you with a set of keys. 

 

During your stay 

Do you have catering in your residences?

Guests staying at Ramsay Hall, Ifor Evans, and One Pool Street will have the option of catering.

Guests staying at Ian Baker House, Astor College, Schafer House, and Gower Street Residences can purchase breakfast and dinner vouchers from Ramsay Hall reception. Breakfast and dinner are served at Ramsay Hall.

Is there Wi-Fi internet access?

Yes, we have free Wi-Fi access in all bedrooms.

Are linen and towels provided? 

Yes, linen and towels are provided and changed weekly, or in between each guest.

Can I store luggage at the residences?

You can store luggage on the day of your departure only at some sites, at the discretion of staff. 

How often are the bedrooms cleaned?

The bedrooms are cleaned weekly. 

Do I need to bring cooking utensils?

We provide limited crockery, cutlery, and cooking utensils in all kitchens. 

Will I have access to laundry facilities? 

Yes, you will have access to laundry facilities. 

What items and services are not provided in the rooms and flats?
  • Hairdryer
  • Shampoo and other personal hygeine items
  • Tea and coffee making facilities in the bedrooms
  • Room service
  • TV in the bedroom
Are guests allowed in your residences?

Guests are allowed during the day; however, we do not allow overnight stays. For fire safety reasons, our rooms are for the advertised number of occupants only.

Do you have parking at your residences? 

Parking is very limited and often very expensive in London. We do not offer residential parking to residents on any of our sites. We would recommend that you do not bring your car to London if you choose to stay in our summer accommodation. 

Any vehicles parked on UCL property, including residential buildings, need to be authorised before arrival and charges will apply in line with UCL Parking.

Is there a curfew? 

No, during your stay you may enter and exit the residence at any time. However, we ask guests to respect the quiet hours which are from 11pm to 8am.

Can I receive post during my stay at the residence?

Yes, ensure that your name, room number and the residence address are on the items you order. 

We will notify you if we receive post for you and you will be able to collect it from the office during opening hours.

Is there a phone in the bedrooms?

No, there are no phones in our rooms, and no pay phones in our residences?

Are the rooms air-conditioned?

No, there is no air-conditioning in the rooms. 

Can I smoke in the residences?

Smoking, including E-Cigarettes and vape pens, is not permitted anywhere in your Accommodation or in Halls. Smoking is also prohibited immediately outside the entrances or open windows of Halls. 
Smoking in communal areas is a criminal offence and may result in prosecution by the Police.
