Menu
Training for all PhD students consists of tutorials, practical lab courses, skills exchange workshops, mentoring and supervision. Students take part in annual meetings, including:
  • British Society for Cell Biology/Developmental Biology meetings
  • LMCB retreats
  • organised conferences with a partner institute where students give a talk or present a poster
Students also invite high profile speakers to give a seminar at the LMCB.
Paid demonstrating for UCL undergraduate practicals and tutorials can be undertaken by PhD students.

Community
There is an active student committee which discusses student life at the LMCB and reports their views to the Postgraduate Committee. The committee chair also represents students at group leader meetings. Students are encouraged to take part in the active student social life of the LMCB which includes student evenings and the student retreat, and participate in further opportunities for scientific training, social and wellness events.

Outreach
Students organise annual visits to the LMCB for sixth-form students to learn about our research through interactive sessions in the lab. We offer many other opportunities to get involved in volunteering and public engagement activities,  including In2Science participation and The Brilliant Club. Please see our public engagement pages for more information about our activities with the public.
