Abigel Bartelmess awarded UCL Biosciences Undergraduate Research Studentship

Abigel Bartelmess has been awarded a UCL Biosciences Undergraduate Research Studentship to continue her drug-discovery research project under the supervision of Dr Janos Kriston-Vizi.

Growing tumours are known to exploit cellular processes that enable their prolonged survival, allowing cells to adapt to nutrient-deficient environments. Autophagy is one such stress response, and its modulation may be an important drug target. Using a three-dimensional cancer model system, Abigel aims to explore the physiological effects of small molecule compounds on lung and breast cancer cells. Her research proposal holds great promise for future biomedical improvements in the treatment of diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s.
