London banker, partner in Bosanquet Anderdon (q.v.), awarded compensation for the enslaved people on three estates on Nevis.

  1. Son of Samuel Bosanquet (q.v.) and Leititia Philippa Whatman, born 21/01/1804 [the ODNB gives 10/01/1804], baptised 11/02/1804 at Leyton Essex. Married (1) Merelina Tindal, daughter of Nicholas Conyngham Tindal, at St John Hampstead 16/05/1840 (2) Frances Georgiana Elizabeth Somerset 25/07/1854 at St Andrew Enfield (3) Emily Dorothy Best. Will of James Whatman Bosanquet late of Claysmore Enfield and Lombard Street who died 22/12/1877 at Claysmore proved 21/01/1878 by Bernard Tindal Bosanquet, effects under £35,000 resworn March 1879 under £30,000.

  2. James Whatman Bosanquet is in the ODNB as 'banker and biblical historian'. Westminster School 1814-1817, partner in his father's bank from 1822. 'A governor of the Bank of England' [in fact, a director, never the Governor] and chairman of income tax commission under Sir Robert Peel. Wrote for and financially supported the Society for Biblical Archaeology, and was termed the 'Maecenas of Assyriology'. Fellow of Royal Astronomical Society.
