Drop in sessions
First session of Term 2 2017 is 10 January.
Last session of Term 2 2017 is 22 March.
What we offer
We provide individual help with digital skills to all UCL staff and students during term time only. Drop ins are held in Room 223, Chadwick building on Tuesday 10 – 12 and Wednesday 2 – 4.
No need to book (but check availability)
We don't take appointments for drop in sessions but as explained below, we can't guarantee to be able to help with every query and drop in facilitators will differ in their skills range so you can contacting us by email to check who will be leading the session you wish to attend.
Please note that we also sometimes have to cancel a session due to unexpected circumstances so please check the top of this page before you travel to a session to avoid disappointment.
Chadwick 223 can be reached from the south-east entrance of the Chadwick building. As you enter the Main Quad from Gower Street, walk past the student centre and turn right and walk along the Chadwick building to the corner where it meets the South Wing. Room 223 is on the second floor and there is no lift. If you are unable to access the drop in then please contact us and we will make alternative arrangements.
Core IT help
Available at every session:
- Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint)
- Using SPSS
Specialist support is offered in these areas but is not always available and will depend on the staff on duty. We recommend contacting us by email to check that the specialist help will be available.
- Using statistical analysis tools (Stata, R)
- web development (HTML & CSS)
- programming (Matlab, Python, Java)
- qualitative analysis software (Nvivo)
- formatting longer documents (LaTeX)
- database design (Access, SQL)
- graphics and image manipulation (Photoshop)
- bibliographic software (EndNote, Zotero)

You will need to show UCL ID before using the service.
We will try to resolve your query straight away if possible or we may recommend attending another session to receive the best help that we can provide in the area that you are interested in. In some cases we may not be able to provide the help that you require and we will advise you of this as soon as possible.
All support is on a drop in basis. If we advise you to attend at a later date you may still need to wait to be seen. We recommend that you have some work that you can do while you wait.
