Learning at UCL: Professional Development Opportunities

Banner - Development Opportunities

UCL is strongly committed to all staffs’ professional development and delivers a wide variety of centrally commissioned and managed events supportive of staffs’ learning and development needs. Focusing on individual, team and organisational effectiveness, these events and activities are provided by a number of internal teams and, as part of your induction, your line manager will discuss your learning needs and will help you identify the most suitable options for you.

Attendance at all centrally-supported learning and development events at UCL is bookable through the Single Training Booking System (STBS), which can be accessed as follows:

Mandatory Training and Induction Events

This is designed to provide new colleagues with an overview of the university and to help all comply with UCL’s approach to equality and diversity and health and safety.

Professional Development Programme (PDP)

UCL’s Organisational Development team offers a dynamic programme of over 50 courses aimed at helping staff develop the knowledge and skills they need to work effectively at UCL. The team also offers a range of leadership and management events open to staff with these responsibilities.

Information Systems

UCL’s Information Systems Division (ISD) provides a range of IT-related events, qualifications and one-to-one sessions for staff.

E-Learning Environments (ELE)

The ELE team provide support for staff to use technology to enhance their teaching and learning activities. ELE also operate Moodle, our Open Source Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

Learning and Teaching Support

The Centre for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching (CALT) team support staff responsible for teaching and learning at UCL. They also offer short courses to staff, giving them the opportunity to develop their teaching and learning skills.

Health and Safety at Work

UCL’s Health and Safety team provide independent safety advice and safety training courses, including scheduled events and bespoke courses, if required.

All new staff will also receive a local safety induction, provided by their Department.
