I completed my MA in Applied Linguistics at Birkbeck College in 2007. My research project focused on adult second language acquisition of BSL, in particular, whether the decreased left-right discrimination and mental rotation abilities impose a constraint on acquisition of spatial constructions in BSL.

I am currently a PhD student at DCAL. My project investigates whether deaf native BSL signers perceive handshapes used to describe handling or manipulation of objects (handling classifiers) in BSL categorically or continuously. The evidence gathered from the experiments will help us to better understand the linguistic status of BSL handling classifiers. This study is linked to the PaLM project, led by Dr. Kearsy Cormier and Sandra Smith.
