Dr Merle Mahon

merle mahon

I was trained in South Africa as a speech and language therapist and audiologist.
When I first came to London I worked as a researcher at Goldsmiths College on transposition in hearing aids.
After that I worked as a specialist speech and language therapist for deaf people in Camden and Islington.
I’ve been a senior lecturer in hearing sciences at UCL since 1999. In my PhD (University of London 1997) I explored interactions between deaf children and their parents in families where English is an additional language (EAL).
My current research is about the way deaf children from EAL families develop and use spoken English, both at home and at school. This work is in collaboration with colleagues from the cochlear implant programme at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the UCL Ear Institute.

You can find out more about what I do and some of my publications here.
