Interrupting UCL Students

If you are interrupting your studies, your UCL Library membership will expire once you pass your Portico “Expected end date” and you will temporarily lose access to our services and facilities.

When you return to your studies your Portico “Expected end date” will be updated, and this access will be restored automatically.

Access to our libraries and study spaces

After your Portico “Expected end date” your UCL student ID will expire and will no longer provide access to our libraries and study spaces. Please contact your department if you still need access to libraries and study spaces during your period of interruption. They may be able to register you as a departmental visitor until you resume your studies.

Please note, ‘visitor’ status does not provide access to the Student Centre.

Borrowing/Click and Collect

After your Portico “Expected end date” you will no longer be able to borrow books from our libraries or place Click and Collect requests. Please contact your department if you still need to borrow books during your period of interruption, they may be able to register you as a departmental visitor until you resume your studies.

Manual and automatic loan renewals

Any books that you have on loan must be returned before your Portico “Expected end date”, as after this date books will not renew automatically, and you will be unable to extend the expiry date manually. If books are not returned, you may incur overdue fines.

Scan and Send

After your Portico “Expected end date” you will no longer be able to place Scan and Send requests.

Access to My Account via Explore and to electronic resources

After your Portico “Expected end date” you will no longer be able to log-in to My Account via Explore with your student credentials. Please make sure you export in advance any lists of saved records which you need to keep.

Please note that during your interruption of studies you will still be able to access electronic resources via Explore, without logging-in to My Account.

You can search for electronic resources on Explore and follow the links as usual. When you click on a link you will be taken to a UCL authentication webpage before access is provided.
