Alistair Bach
Nickname: Lurch
Preferred position: Defence
Despite constant taunts and scurrilous rumours spread by our opponents (stretched on a rack at birth, hung by weights from his thumbs etc) we can vouch for the fact that Alistair's 6'6" frame is completely natural! Apart from his obvious height advantage, Al is also very quick for a big guy, and with those long arms his hands get everywhere in defence - as many a shooter will tell you. Especially the female ones :-) Postscript - Al went back to South Africa where he now works as a masseur.... Well that's what they call it officially! :-)

Julianne Bingham Nickname:Deadeye
Preferred position: GS
Julianne is a bit of a "secret weapon" - despite being a long-time MNA member she hardly ever plays anywhere but Poplar in the depths of East London, so no-one knows who she is! However her fame has risen since winning the "Sharp Shooter" award at Docklands in Summer 2004. She is a deadly shot and so fast in the circle even her own team mates can't keep up with her! However her experience with attacking circle partner (and hubby)Terry means she gets plenty of service.... Er can we say that?

Vanessa Boshell
Nickname:Mum
Preferred position: WD
Vanessa is a demon defender and versatility player, but she does have one unusual facet - it seems the more pregnant she is, the better she plays! Whether it's the hormones or a determination to get the most out of playing before confinement, she seems to become increasingly competitive in direct proportion to the size of her bump... so we'd better hope for the sake of team performance (not to mention the mascot industry!), that she and Eugene continue to do their duty in this regard :-)

Debs Bullimore
Nickname Wet ***s
Preferred position: GA
Debs is another early member of the Allstars, having joined in our first season, and is one of our star attackers. This is due not only to her attacking skills but also to her athleticism and her agressive defending when she doesn't have the ball. She does have her weaknesses however: she's colour blind (she appears to thinks maroon skirts are black) and ... oh no, I can't tell you the story about the damp breasts and the clingy tracksuit top can I (well not unless you pay)...?

Belinda Burgmann
Nickname: Fanatic
Preferred position: Anywhere involving netball
Belinda filled in for us once when we were shorthanded and decided to stay on... Or more precisely, badgered us into giving her the full fixture list on the same night and signed up to everything there and then, in addition to the multiple games a week she was already playing for two other teams... Rumour has it that if she doesn't get at least two hours of netball every day she will die of a broken heart! She can play in any position - and usually does :-) Currently in Oz, rumoured to be setting up an Antipodean branch of MNA !

Dean Fearnall
Nickname: Tigger
Preferred position: Anywhere involving bouncing
Dean holds the world record for winning the most "best and fairest player" awards in a season at the Poplar league - which is perhaps less to do with his inherent approach and more because there's a five pound drinking voucher to go with with each one? On court, he makes an immediate impression as he always seems to be everywhere, reaching balls he shouldn't really get to even if he were a foot taller, and zooming about as if overdosing on speed... Not suprising really, the girls tell us he's fast off the court too :-)

Nickname: Irongirl
Preferred position: C
Clare is a one-time of the Specials, MNA's longstanding Tuesday Social team, which she transformed over many seasons from a group of drunken, social misfits into....Well, OK they're still that but now they win too! Her natural air of authority is never questioned - even Andy never argues with her tactical decisions! One of the fittest women in MNA, rumour has it that parts of Clare's magnificently toned body have been replaced by steel implants, which is why men of twice her size always bounce off her on court.

Vanya Hunter
Nickname:Speedy
Preferred position: In the bar with a scotch and coke
With a nickname like that, the immediate image one would have of Vanya would be of someone who zooms around the court, outpaces the opposition, always full of vim and vigour! Now we would never want to suggest that she doesn't perform like that, but perhaps it is more a sarcastic choice as she has been known to respond to email calls to play over a week after a game has taken place... Either that or it's a reference to the prodigious rate at which she downs her drinks :-)

Laurence Keel
Nickname: Evil Queen
Preferred position: Depends on time of month
Laurence is another longtime associate of the MNA, having played with Andy Dawson back in the Taywood days... He also runs Millennia Netball, which he blames for having reduced him to the state he is in nowadays and accounts (at least in part) for his...eclectic?... behaviour on court, where he can mutate from shining star to crazed umpire killer in the blink of an eye. Also famous for being the only shooter in the known world who deliberately works himself out in the circle, and as the only Allstar who can rival Colyn Gordon for campness on court.

Taryn Laidlaw
Nickname: Squeak, Tongue girl
Preferred position: Centre court
Taryn is most valuable to the Allstars as an excellent Wing and Centre, but she also has added value as an entertainer and a kit supplier... Her mum runs a sportswear business so it's been easy for her to "leverage" us some posh kit! We're very grateful for that, but even moreso for the hours of fun she has given us all by losing her voice, not to mention always arranging to give us something to gossip about when we're on tour... :-)

Cath Lascaris
Nickname: Mistress Innuendo
Preferred position: WA
Cath first got involved with the Allstars when she invited our men's squad over to play her ladies team... I don't know, what some people will do to meet new blokes! Cath's reputation for delivering wicked balls into the circle is only exceeded by her reputation for sending exceedingly smutty email messages, cunningly disguised to look innocent... Indeed she was only finally entered here because she complained I had kept her coming for ages. Sorry, what? ;-)

Andrea Norman
Nickname:Piss'ead
Preferred position: GA
Andrea first joined the nascent Islington squad in 2003, allegedly because she felt a natural affinity with their nickname (Party Sluts). Despite always being one of the last to leave (the bar) and following many failed years in rehab, she somehow managed to remain sober long enough to be a major force within the team at GA. Her hard drinking ways are now seen as a concerted attempt to challenge Dynamo's grip on the annual Zimmerframe awards by going for serious liver damage.

Georgina Partridge
Nickname: George
Preferred position: Anwhere!
George is another of our "Cumberland Connection" girls along with Petra and Debs, but for a change she's one we recruited from them rather than being one they got from us! Another great versatility player, she has been a stalwart of the Paddington Allstars and an anchor at GD. Sadly her new responsibilities as a partner at her firm means she finds it harder to get so much time to play now - but it does open up some great sponsorship opportunities for us! :-)

Mike Perry
Nickname: Mr Lazy
Preferred position: GS
Mike is one of the Allstars' most obvious assets, being 6'5"! However despite being an excellent player, the fact that he towers over most of his opponents gets him into bad habits, and he gets his nickname from his tendency to simply stand under the post, reach up and drop the ball in the net, refusing to jump or move at all - unless someone offers him a beer first.

Aimee Rogers
Nickname: Psycho Killer
Preferred position: Anywhere with someone between her and the ball
Aimee's sweet name and short stature belie a fiery determination to be first to every ball... regardless who's in the way! Nothing disturbs her overwhelming passion to succeed (least of all the rules on contact) and she is in her element lining up against the opposition's biggest guys, who she often beats to high balls by using their bodies as a takeoff platform. We love her enthusiasm, and despite all the above might imply, she's a very clean player, really... We make sure she takes a shower after every game :-)

Doug Tomkins
Nickname: Dugs
Preferred position: Wherever the glory is
Doug shares an interesting secret with Andy, in that he too used to be an American Football player... perhaps that's why we are always battling to get him to remember that netball is a non-contact sport! Sadly his job doesn't allow him to play as much as he'd like - which would otherwise probably be every night (if Michelle would let him!). A very competitive player, he doesn't care what position he plays in so long as he has a shot at getting the player-of-the-match award - and the best starting spot on court for the sprint to the bar after the game :-).
