- Science and Engineering for Social Change Non-Residential Summer School (21 July - 23 July 2026)
Tuesday 21 July - Thursday 23 July 2026
Join us this summer at UCL’s innovative East campus for an exciting non-residential summer school, designed especially for Year 12 students from East London. This hands-on programme will give you a behind-the-scenes look at higher education while exploring the challenges and opportunities facing local communities.
Working in small teams, you’ll investigate real-world challenges and develop ideas for solutions. You might be studying psychology, politics, sociology, economics, maths, computing, biology, or a mixture – and that’s the point . Tackling complex problems requires many different perspectives. While science, engineering and technology can offer powerful tools and innovations, the success of these solutions is often shaped by social, economic and cultural factors. Understanding people, communities and systems is therefore just as important as developing new technologies.
Through workshops, discussions, and project-based activities, you’ll explore how change happens around us. You’ll learn about different ways people create impact, from research and innovation to community collaboration and policy. Along the way, you’ll build valuable skills including collaboration, critical thinking, research, and communication, while getting a feel for what it’s like to study at a world-leading university and exploring new degree pathways you may not have considered.
