Reminder to register for our EGM tomorrow, Thursday 12th October at 1pm via zoom

11 October 2023

Please register to join our Extraordinary General Meeting on zoom

This is a reminder that an Extraordinary General Meeting of UCL UCU which will be held tomorrow: Thursday 12th October from 13:00 - 14:00. This will be a zoom meeting.

Members have been sent a link to register for the EGM via email.

This meeting has been convened to discuss the current ballot of industrial action over the national pay and conditions dispute, and the campaign to get the vote out.

  • Pay fell by 11.7% over the last two years against RPI, the trade unions’ agreed measure of inflation. Our pay will continue to depreciate. RPI in August 2023 was 9.1%, about 2 percentage points lower than the same time last year.
  • Casualiation. At UCL we have made real progress over insecure contracts, especially among teaching staff. But across the sector, job insecurity is the norm. And research staff will say that we have a long way to go.
  • Workload is a general problem for our sector, but it has noticeably got worse since the 2020 lockdown. Universities have proven remarkably resistant to addressing gender and race pay gaps since they were first identified.

UCL has set up working groups on casualisation, workload and pay gaps as a result of our national dispute last year.

We will also hear from a rep from Brighton UCU, who have today clocked up 100 days of continuous strike action in their fight against compulsory redundancies.

This will be a practical meeting, focused on organising the Get the Vote Out campaign.

If you would like to help the branch encourage members to vote, please also get in touch.

Please make sure you vote in the pay and conditions ('four fights') dispute.
