Calling notice for EGM about USS, Friday 20th October, 1-2pm on Zoom

This is a formal calling notice for an Emergency General Meeting of UCL UCU which will be held on Friday 20th October from 13:00 - 14:00 on Zoom.  An invitation to register and receive a zoom link has been sent to members by email

This meeting has been convened to discuss the latest USS developments in the light of recent announcements, and to hear directly from one of UCU’s national negotiators.

Two Consultations on USS

1. UCU consultation about USS dispute 

Colleagues should have received an email from UCU headed ‘IMPORTANT: UCU member consultation on recovery of USS benefits’ asking members to vote whether the union should accept the package of measures our representatives have negotiated. This is a simple electronic Yes/No poll: to vote: please click on the voting link provided in that email. The deadline is 20 October at 12 noon (before our branch meeting). 

The Higher Education Committee of the union has unanimously voted to advise members to vote YES in this consultation.

2. USS Employee consultation
   A separate consultation process is open to all USS members (not only UCU members) concerning how USS should operate going forward. UCU's Superannuation Working Group (SWG) has produced a document to help members complete their response. 

We encourage as many members as possible to get involved with this consultation via the USS consultation website:

The SWG is asking members to consider these talking points before responding to the consultation. They are not suggesting these be copy-and-pasted verbatim; the consultation will be more meaningful if members express their views in their own words. 

We have reversed the April 2022 cuts of 35-40%. 

Hopefully we can secure the future of our pensions!
