UCL-UCU: Reminder - Strike Discussion & Organising Meeting Tuesday 22 November

17 November 2022

We would like to remind members that we have a Strike Discussion and Organising Meeting next Tuesday 22 November at 13.00.

The meeting will be to take questions and prepare for the strike dates of 24, 25, and 30 November.

We will also be re-initiating our Strike Committee for all those taking part.

In addition, we will consider two motions: one on donating to the IWGB (security staff) strike fund and one on updating the days covered by our own hardship (strike) fund.

Agenda:

  1. Motions on donations (see below)
  2. Q & A on the Strike (you can use our Slido to asks questions before, during, and after the meeting)
  3. Organising for the action & Strike Committee Details

Motions

Motion 1 - Donating to the IWGB strike fund

UCL-UCU notes:

  1. Our outsourced colleagues at UCL who are represented by the IWGB have voted for strike action in pursuit of £15/hour minimum wage and union recognition.
  2. UCL-UCU has a proud tradition of solidarity with our campus trade unions and has support previous strikes by other unions on campus.

UCL-UCU resolves:

  1. To make a £1000 donation to the IWGB Universities Branch strike fund.

Motion 2 - UCL UCU Strike/Hardship Fund

UCL UCU notes:

  1. At the time of writing, no information about the national hardship fund (Fighting Fund) has been published.
  2. In previous strikes, the branch made hardship payments to members for strike dates not covered by that fund.

UCL UCU resolves: to ensure that for the forthcoming strike dates (24, 25 and 30 November) members may claim from the branch strike hardship fund for any dates not covered by the national Fighting Fund on the same basis as previously, i.e. to cover deductions up to £75/day for members earning less than £30,000 a year, and £50/day for others.
