UCL-UCU: Join our mtg tomorrow, Thu 17 Feb at 1pm - organisation for next week's strike action

Pay may not have been as big a factor in our minds when we balloted for action last term. But with inflation hitting record heights, we could lose the equivalent of 3-4 salary points in a single year!

We will be on strike over the Four Fights (for decent pay, and action on insecure contracts, workload, and the gender and race pay gaps) on:

• Monday 21 February, and Tuesday 22 February; and
• Monday 28 February, Tuesday 1 March and Wednesday 2 March.

Strikes began all over the UK this week in defence of our USS pension. Next week in London, 19 UCU branches and 3 UNISON branches will be out on strike.

Strike organising meeting tomorrow at 1pm:

We are calling an open organising meeting for the strike this Thursday 17 February, 1-2pm. The meeting is an opportunity for colleagues to discuss the action and ask questions. 

After Reading Week it will be important to have large and lively pickets, and we will be setting up as usual at the Front Gate of the Quad on Gower Street from 8 am.

We found last term that our students were very happy to speak to us on picket lines and we have received some amazing support, as evidenced by the campaign to turn around the Student Union's position towards the action.

Some key strike dates for your diary:

• On 22 February, there is a Unite to Defend Education march called by London Region UCU, which will go from Tavistock Square to USS's HQ in the City.
• On Wednesday 2 March, the National Union of Students has called for a national Student Walkout and Teach-In, on the last day of the currently-called strike action.
