UCL-UCU: Preparing to Escalate our Industrial Action - next steps EGM

7 December 2022

This is notice of an Emergency General Meeting scheduled for next Wednesday 14 December at 13.00

We are calling an Emergency General Meeting for next Wednesday 14 December at 13.00 to discuss the next steps in our industrial action.

The strike action on the 24, 25, 30th of November was very successful and we saw significant numbers of staff participating throughout the UK, with support building for our cause.

This action led the employers to commit to “intense” negotiations, but nothing has ever been won from university employers without leverage.

The strategy that UCU has declared publicly to win the dispute includes, from now:

  1. A Marking and Assessment Boycott starting in early January
  2. Strike action in February if there is no significant progress on our claims

Given that the start date for the MAB is potentially just around the corner, we need colleagues to start discussing and preparing for this.

The larger part of this meeting will be given over to open discussion on what the MAB means and how to prepare for it, how to make it work, as well as the action that might come after.

We invite all views on this.

Please attend to discuss. You can also add questions for the meeting to our Slido.
