Academic Board elections to Council - reminder to vote!

29 May 2020

A message to UCL-UCU colleague on Academic Board

The call to vote in UCL’s Academic Board Elections to Council and Academic Committee went out on the 18 May (see email from AcadServ.Secretariat with link to the Zeus voting system). Please note that when voting online, you are able to change your vote up until the deadline of Weds, 3 June. Only the last vote you cast counts as your final vote.

Academic Board is seeking to give a greater voice to, and empower, the whole academic community in UCL governance. With the Commission of Inquiry report and its recommendations in the process of being finalised, the current extraordinary management structures, and a new Provost taking up the reins, these elections are very important.

We would like to highlight the following candidates to Council in this election (whilst also encouraging all members who are eligible to stand for election to the Academic Board itself).

Non-professorial AB election to Council (one place)

Both candidates, Martin Fry and Sandra Leaton-Gray, are excellent union members and active on AB. We advise that members read their statements in making their decision.

Professorial AB election to Council (one place)

Both the following candidates are union members that have been active on AB in vocally standing up for the academic community:

  • Ralf Schoepfer has a wealth of experience in fighting for the empowerment of the academic community on the Board, being instrumental in setting up AB organs of scrutiny of management initiatives (e.g. Governance Committee);
  • Susan Michie has been active in supporting AB scrutiny of management positions and speaking out on important matters for the UCL academic community.
