UCL-UCU: Strike report - day 2 (Tue 25 Feb) & today’s March for Education

25 February 2020

Brighter weather and the end of school half term holidays helped increase the number of pickets across the central Bloomsbury campus and beyond.

Day 2: Brief report

Our post strike meeting heard positive reports of successful picketing and Teach-Outs and a message of solidarity from SOAS UNISON members who have been on official strike for three days.

A well attended strike solidarity meeting in the evening heard John McDonnell MP, Mark Serwotka, Jane Loftus and Chicago teachers rep (amongst others) discuss how the UCU strike was inspiring them.

We want UCL UCU pickets to remain a visible presence on campus. Please join us today and from Monday next week.

Day 3: March for Education

Picket 8am-12 noon.

March for Education - called by London Region UCU

  • Assemble 12 noon in Tavistock Square WC1.
  • Rally outside UCEA/UUK HQ with speakers: Angela Rayner MP. John McDonnell MP, Ian Hodson BFAWU, Chicago Teachers rep + others.
  • March to the City at 1.00pm.
  • Post-demo strike meeting in Rich Mix, Shoreditch E1 from 3pm.

London Region and UCL UCU have called a strike meeting at the end of this phase. This important meeting will be a discussion forum for colleagues and branches about the next steps in our strike.

Transport to Rich Mix: You can walk to Shoreditch up the A10 Bishopsgate or there are several buses. Two buses stop directly outside Rich Mix (alight at ‘Bethnal Green Rd / Shoreditch High St.’): bus 8 from Bank Station (stop C) and bus 388 from Bishopsgate at the top of Threadneedle St.
