Strike report - day 6 (Mon 2 Dec)

3 December 2019

Day 6 Brief Report: Picketing continued across the majority of central UCL sites. Since the beginning of our action we have distributed ~30,000 leaflets to staff and students across the UCL campus, including a locally-designed leaflet to encourage student support.

Campus was extremely quiet yesterday morning. Thanks to the many members who are striking at home, some departments effectively closed. But this is also an active strike campaign. Alongside the meetings, rallies and marches, many union groups in departments continue to organise Teach-Outs that are proving popular with staff and students.

Tomorrow’s Strike Committee meeting will take place at 12:00 in the Tudor Room, Imperial Hotel, 61-66 Russell Square, London WC1B 5BB. Teach-Outs take place immediately after.

FE staff at Tower Hamlets College have sent us a message of support. They are on strike tomorrow and Wednesday over pay and insecure contracts, and will join us for the #IncludeUS rally (see below)

Day 7 Teach-Out

On the day of Donald Trump’s visit to London, come along to discuss the impact of racism on campus and opportunities to resist.

Title: “Resist Trump – Defend Migrants – End the Hostile Environment”
Venue: The Tudor Room, Imperial Hotel, London WC1B 5BB

  • Bell Ribeiro-Addy, Labour Candidate for Streatham.
  • Malu Gatto (UCL Institute of the Americas).
  • Nadia Sayed, Stand Up To Racism.
  • And more...

As they become available we will be sharing details of departmental Teach-Outs on our website and on our social media channels (see below).

The Stop Trump Coalition has called a protest from 16:00 in Trafalgar Square and the UCL branch banner will be there.
