Remember to vote in e-ballot on UUK offer - closes today at 2pm
13 April 2018
This is a final reminder to vote in the current e-ballot before 2pm today.
We had advised members to wait for the results of the meeting of
the USS Trustee Board yesterday, given the result of this meeting was
one of the reasons given by our General Secretary for the short ballot
period over the Easter break, and without seeking clarifications and
assurances from the employers on their offer.
The USS Trustee Board did indeed meet yesterday but have chosen to
keep their deliberations and conclusions about the pension scheme
confidential, as reported by Josephine Cumbo for the Financial Times on
Twitter. This is neither transparent nor assuring about the status of
the present UUK offer.
We recommend that you vote 'no'. However you vote, please ensure that you do so before the 2pm deadline today.
At 6pm on Monday, London Region UCU has called an open coordinating meeting for members at UCL (Cruciform Lecture Theatre 2, Gower Street) to discuss what happens after the e-ballot.
Erratum
In our previous message on 6 April some of the nineteen branches that we listed as adopting a 'no' recommendation did so on the basis of an Executive Committee decision rather than a meeting of members. As of 12 April the tally is 17 branches have EGMs calling for rejection: City uni, Edinburgh, Exe`ter, Keele, Kent, Kings College London, Leeds, Leicester, Newcastle, Queen Mary London, Salford, Sheffield, Institute of Education, SOAS, Strathclyde, Sussex, UCL. And 7 branches where Committee/officers advise reject: Bath, Cambridge, Goldsmiths uni, Herriot Watt, Lancaster (branch Chair recommends reject), Liverpool and Ruskin.
