Dr Georgios Zervas wins the 2017 Fabio Neri Best Paper Award

Dr Georgios Zervas co-authored on a paper for the Elsevier OSN journal, which has been selected as a winner of the 2017 Fabio Neri Best Paper Award.
Dr Georgios Zervas, TRANSNET Co-Investigator and Associate Professor in the Electronic and Electrical Engineering Department, recently won an award for a paper he co-authored entitled “Key performance indicators for elastic optical transponders and ROADMs: The role of flexibility”.
Dr Zervas’ co-authors Adaranijo Peters, Emilio Hugues-Salas and Matthias Gunkel (Deutsche Telekom Group) were presented the award - a certificate and $500 prize - at the prestigious IEEE GlobeCom 2018, hosted in Abu Dhabi on 12 December.
On being awarded Dr Zervas said:
This research creates a new metric of weighting that can be used by Telecom operators and vendors to better design and operate future optical Internet infrastructures.
I am very proud to see the hard and rigorous work of my student Adaranijo Peters’ (just completed his PhD) internationally recognized. Fabio Neri was a respected and prolific researcher, highly regarded for his honesty and integrity that continues to inspire us all.
The Fabio Neri Best Paper Award is presented annually to the best research paper published in Optical Switching and Networking (OSN). The award is named after Fabio Neri, who was the founding co-Editor-in-Chief of OSN; this award is to celebrate his memory by recognizing and promoting excellence in research.
