What were you doing prior to starting the STEaPP MPA?

I was undertaking a BSc (Hons) in Management and Information Technology at Lancaster University.

Why did you choose to study at STEaPP?

I chose to study at STEaPP because it is one of the very few universities in the world proposing an MPA with an emphasis on technology policy. Compared to other postgraduate degrees, an MPA lies at the frontier between the academic and professional environments, which is more valuable for any postgraduate student. STEaPP believes on a practical approach to provide a foundational understanding in policy to its MPA candidates, thus preparing them effectively for their future careers.

What was your favourite aspect of the MPA?

My favourite aspect of the MPA was STEaPP’s teaching methods through its various modules and assessments based on real-world scenarios. In lectures and seminars, we were given the opportunity to discuss between ourselves and the professors, which lead to constructive debates where I have learned more from other MPA candidates and their experiences. Furthermore, the MPA Group Project allowed my fellow candidates and I to co-found a research project for the United Nations World Food Programme, with an in-depth study on disruptive technologies for innovation and development purposes.

How has the STEaPP MPA shaped your experiences since leaving UCL?

My research, writing and communication skills have immensely improved since leaving UCL and are now my assets. I have been able to apply the MPA’s learning outcomes into my daily responsibilities within the IMF.

What is the one piece of advice you would give to future candidates?

The best way to overcome your challenges, meet your objectives, and evolve is through teamwork.
