Our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses are taught by UCL’s leading experts in data science and are open to anyone wishing to expand their knowledge of how to use data.

Data Storytelling: How to Communicate Effectively with Data

Jun 25-27th, 2024

A 2.5 day course for professionals who want to enhance their data communication skills and learn the fundamentals of data journalism. In focusing on storytelling rather than specific techniques, the course is suitable for anyone who needs to communicate with data in their jobs.

Survey Methods and Analysis

Jun 24-26th, 2024

A 3 day course on the fundamentals and practical applications of survey design and analysis. The course is aimed at anyone wishing to use surveys in their professional life.

Introduction to Bayesian Inference and Modelling

Jul 8th-12th, 2024

A 5 day course introducing professional data analysts and academics to Bayesian Inference and estimation. Participants will learn the theory and philosophy behind Bayesian inference as well as how to use R’s Stan package to estimate a range of Bayesian regression models.

Who are the CPD courses for?

Everyone! Our courses offer training for professionals and academics who want to enhance their data communication skills, learn the practical applications of certain methods and techniques. 

Do I need any existing training?

You don’t need to have undertaken any courses to take part in our CPD courses, but some basic knowledge of data might be useful.
The Data Storytelling course requires no advance knowledge, however some basic knowledge of statistics will be needed for the Survey Methods and Analysis and Bayesian Inference and Modelling courses.

How long are the courses?

The length ranges from 2.5 days to 5 days, over the end of June and beginning of July 

Are the courses official qualifications?

No, however you will receive a certificate of completion.

Do the courses take place in person or remotely?

All the courses take place in person on UCL’s Gower Street campus. Information about specific locations can be found on the individual course pages.
