Trash seeks to challenge the norms of an art world that perpetuates a legacy of privilege, exploring new transitory experiences and giving voice to the unheard. The audience will destroy the artwork, taking agency from the artist and celebrating the communal and the tactile after months of isolated inertia. When is the show complete? Is it before, during or after the destruction?
Although not implicitly stated, the underlying implication of the exhibition is to reflect on the gleeful destruction of society and the environment throughout the world today - Trump’s America, Brexit Britain, Putin’s Russia, Bolsanaro’s Brazil. Trash will later become a touring show, with A Pilastra, Brasilia and with APXIV Collective in Moscow.
