Talk: Weaving baskets and braiding hair for quantum computing
15 October 2020
Dr Simon Burton of UCLQ speaks at European Quantum Week.
HOST: European Quantum Week by Quantum Flagship
SPEAKER: Dr Simon Burton | UCLQ
TIME & VENUE: Friday | 5th November, 2020 | 4:00 PM | UCL (Online / Virtual event, via YouTube)
TITLE: Weaving baskets and braiding hair for quantum computing
ABSTRACT: If you can braid hair you can understand something about the mathematics of quantum computers.
A mysterious kind of particle called an "anyon" has been hypothesized to exist. These particles can become tangled with each other to make braids! This is one way that people are working to make a quantum computer. Hear more about this in this fascinating talk given by Dr Simon Burton from UCL Quantum Science and Technology Institute, London, UK.
Who can join?
All secondary school students and classes can join this fully virtual European Quantum Week education session.
How to join?
No registration is required, attendees can join by tuning into the UCL Quantum Science and Technology Institute YouTube Channel at 16:00GMT on Thursday 5 November 2020.
