Kannan Navaratnem

Kannan Navaratnem

Kannan Navaratnem is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Psychoanalysis Unit. He is a psychoanalyst in private practice and a member of the Institute of Psychoanalysis, London and the British Psychoanalytical Society. He teaches at the Tavistock Clinic, the Institute of Psychoanalysis, the British Psychoanalytic Association and the British Psychotherapy Foundation. He has also been teaching psychoanalysis in China. 

He was a Consultant Adult Psychotherapist at Forest House Psychotherapy Clinic in the NHS where he worked for 25 years and, a Team Leader and Senior Psychotherapist at the Arbours Crisis Centre for 10 years. He was also a staff group consultant and supervisor for the mental health charity SANE. 

Previously, he was editor of News & Events and Beyond the Couch publications of the Institute of Psychoanalysis and, of the Bulletin of the British Psychoanalytical Society. He also served as a member of the organising committee of the European Psychoanalytic Film Festival. 

His psychoanalytic research areas include 'Self and Identity', 'Psychoanalysis and Cinema', 'Applied Psychoanalytic Education', 'Psychoanalytic History' and 'Culture, Race and Diversity'.
