Dr. Marc Serfaty - Chief Investigator
Trefor Aspden - Trial Manager
Trefor is the Trial Manager for the CanTalk study. He has a PhD in Psychology from the University of Wales, Bangor where he investigated the influence of motives on health-related behaviours.
Trefor has previously worked at Royal Holloway University of London, where he managed a trial which looked at the effectiveness of Problem Solving Treatment in improving well being and quality of life in people diagnosed as visually impaired.
Terrie Fiawoo - Research Administrator
Terrie provides administrative support to the study. Although this is Terrie's first role within research she has worked for the Royal Free NHS Trust since 2008.
In her previous role as Clinical Pathway Coordinator, Terrie provided patient journey support and PA services to several consultants for the Hepatology Department, which is renowned for its excellence.
Working primarily within outpatient care her knowledge of good patient care practices, hospital administration and her proactive approach enable her to provide appropriate support to all those involved with the study.
Cate Barlow - Research Associate
Cate recruits participants from the Royal Free and University College London Hospitals, and conducts follow ups. She has an MSc in Health Psychology from the University of Bath, and is currently studying for her PhD at UCL, about attitudes and social support in older adults.
Cate is an experienced researcher and has worked at UCL for ten years on a variety of projects including Exercise in Older Adults, back pain, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and cancer.
Andrea Beetison - Research Assistant
Andrea recruits participants from the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead and UCLH, and conducts follow ups. She comes from a nursing background, having worked as a community nurse in both Bristol and London.
Andrea has worked on a number of End of Life Care projects since 2000 in care homes and general practices, and has also worked on studies at UCL's Marie Curie Research Unit.
Kirsty Bennett - Research Assistant
Kirsty recruits participants from UCLH and Bart's Hospital, and conducts follow ups. She has an MSc in Health Psychology from UCL, during which she qualitatively explored individuals views of different types of cancer screening information.
Kirsty has experience of both qualitative and quantitative research, and previously worked on a large randomised controlled trial of smoking cessation at UCL's Department of Primary Care and Population Health.
Ekaterina Cooper - Research Assistant
Ekaterina recruits participants from Guys & St Thomas' Hospital and Homerton University Hospital, and conducts follow ups. She has an MSc in the Sociology and Psychology of Health from St. Petersburg State University, where she investigated the psychological determination of patient delay among women with breast cancer.
She has previously worked as a psychologist in St. Petersburg, Russia. Ekaterina is currently working on her PhD with Canterbury Christ Church University.
Suzan Hassan - Research Assistant
Suzan recruits participants from hospitals in both South and North London, such as King's College and North Middlesex, and conducts follow ups.
She has an MSc in Psychiatric Research from the Institute of Psychiatry King's College University, during which she investigated the impact of ethnic density on psychotic experiences with the South-East London community health study (SELCoH).
Suzan has worked on a number of research projects in different population groups such-as Stroke, Psychosis and Autism.
