Research summary
My research focuses on the causes, treatment and prevention of depression and anxiety. I also investigate self-harm and suicidality, which frequently occur with depression and anxiety. These mental health problems often begin during adolescence and much of my research focuses on young people.
I am funded by a Wellcome Trust Sir Henry Dale fellowship. My fellowship is investigating the potential role of academic pressure during secondary school in the development of adolescent depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicide.
I use large population-based cohorts, electronic health records, and causal inference methods to inform prevention. I also analyse data from large randomized controlled trials, to improve treatment.
Teaching summary
I co-lead a module on current research in depression and anxiety, for the MSc in Mental Health Sciences. I also teach statistics and epidemiology.
I welcome enquiries from potential PhD students.
