Ruth has presented her work on
statin prescribing for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in people
with severe mental illness at a series of primary care and
pharmaco-epidemiology conferences in the UK and abroad.
Ruth was
absolutely delighted to receive the 2014 UK Society of Academic Primary Care
Travel Award, which enabled her to present at a plenary session at the North
American Primary Care Research Group in New York. The key messages
highlighted in her session include the lack of available evidence on the
effectiveness of statins for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in
people with severe mental illness and the need to increase the uptake of
cardiovascular screening within this group.
