Basis Social delivers transformational insight by bringing together the best of commercial and social research.

In January 2021, Basis Research launched Basis Social - a social research practice focused on helping clients to shape effective public policy, communications and services. Led by Darren Bhattachary, former Kantar Insights CEO, and Dan Clay, former Head of Qualitative Research at Kantar Public, Basis Social delivers transformational insight by bringing together the best of commercial and social research. With a uniquely creative and collaborative approach and a clear focus on outcomes and actionability, Basis Social is leveraging cutting edge technologies, multi-disciplinary networks and the capabilities across Basis Research to offer public policy clients something truly different.

Our team have extensive experience using behavioural models - in particular COM-B - for a wide range of government departments and non-departmental bodies. This covers policy issues ranging from encouraging recycling to behavioural pathways to net zero, and from food hygiene to health and safety on construction sites. We use a combination of primary research (qual and quant) and secondary data to develop behavioural insights, to shape behavioural interventions, and to test these in the real world.

We are in the process of growing Basis Social and are looking to build relationships with candidates who may be interested in using their expertise within an applied public policy context (i.e. shaping public campaigns, services and interventions). We are especially interested in meeting potential candidates that have significant experience with quantitative research and data analysis or have experience and interest in the public policy areas we focus on, such as sustainability and clean transport.

Here is a brief that we have worked on in the past. This gives you an idea of the type of work we do. We ask that you take a look and come with some thoughts on how you might approach this brief.
