Research Facilities

This is a selection of equipment available to book within the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences, most of which can be found at either 26 Bedford Way, or at Chandler House. The facilities are managed by expert support staff, who can also provide training and advice on experimental set up.

The facilities are overseen by an academic or an academic steering group responsible for ensuring that the facility is operated and equipped for maximum benefit to the research community. In most cases, you will need to undergo training or at least an induction to make use of the facilities listed below.

To book one of these facilities contact the support staff responsible for each facility.

BUCNI provides state-of-the-art magnetic imaging facilities for Birkbeck and UCL staff and promotes inter-institutional collaboration and innovation. BUCNI is home to two Siemens scanners: a Prisma 3T and Avanto 1.5T. Both scanners are equipped with multiple head coils, including 64-, 32-, custom 30-channel coils, as well as other surface coils.

At Chandler House, we provide facilities for psychology and language science research including, but not limited to, eye-tracking, electroencephalography (EEG/ERP), functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS), ultrasound, and transcranial electrical stimulation (TES), as well as several booths for behavioural studies and audiovisual recordings.
