Celebrating Prof Bencie Woll’s MBE Award for Pioneering Research in Sign Language Linguistics

We are thrilled to announce that Prof Bencie Woll, from UCL Division of Psychology & Language Sciences and the founder of the Deafness Cognition and Language Research Centre (DCAL) at University College London, has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours list. This prestigious award recognises her ground-breaking research in British Sign Language linguistics and her tireless advocacy for improving access for deaf individuals throughout the United Kingdom.

For over four decades, Prof Woll's dedication and contributions to the field have been instrumental in elevating the understanding and appreciation of British Sign Language and the Deaf community.

As the DCAL community, we extend our heartiest congratulations to Prof Woll. We are extremely proud of her achievements and grateful for her ongoing commitment to this essential field of research.
