Professor Steve Fleming appointed Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research

11 January 2023

Congratulations to Professor Steve Fleming (UCL Division of Psychology and Language Sciences) who has been appointed a Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) programme in Brain, Mind and Consciousness.

Prof Steve Fleming

CIFAR is a Canadian-based global research organisation that brings together teams of top researchers from around the world. There are only 20 Fellows worldwide in the Brain, Mind and Consciousness programme.

Professor Fleming is a Wellcome Trust/Royal Society Sir Henry Dale Fellow at the Department of Experimental Psychology and Principal Investigator at the Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging where he leads the Metacognition Group. The group’s research focuses on the mechanisms supporting conscious awareness and metacognition in the adult human brain.

The CIFAR programme will provide funds for Professor Fleming’s research into consciousness and metacognition.

Professor Fleming said:

"I’m delighted to be appointed as a CIFAR Fellow in the Brain, Mind and Consciousness programme. CIFAR has an impressive track record in providing an environment for new ideas and projects to flourish, and I will join a wonderful group of neuroscientists, philosophers and psychologists to develop new approaches to understanding the origins and mechanisms of consciousness. These interactions will greatly benefit the ongoing work on the computational basis of consciousness and metacognition that we are pursuing in my lab."
