Meg Risdal currently leads product at Kaggle (a Google company) where she works with developers, designers, and researchers to build products and experiences for the world's largest machine learning community. She came to industry from linguistics, where she studied laboratory phonology and sociolinguistics at UCLA and North Carolina State University. In this talk and Q&A, Meg will speak about how she transitioned from academia to pursue a career in data science / tech, how her academic background helped her make this move, and what advice she commonly shares with others interested in the same career trajectory.
