Mark Hamer

Mark Hamer is the Chair in Exercise as Medicine at the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine at Loughborough University. Prof Hamer completed his PhD in exercise physiology in 2002 from De Montfort University, and previously worked at University College London as a researcher in Epidemiology and Public Health. Professor Hamer’s key research interests are in the effects of physical activity and sedentary behaviour on population health, physical activity promotion and metabolically healthy obesity. A key aspect of his work is in understanding factors that influence physical activity behaviour and how to effectively promote physical activity in the general population. He has employed objective physical activity assessments in several large scale cohort studies including 1970 British Cohort Study, Health Survey for England, and Whitehall II Study.
