South Asian women needed for UCL body composition research study

20 January 2016

Are you female? Are you of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi or Sri Lankan ancestry? Are you between the ages of 20 and 28? Are you interested in finding out more about your body composition - how much lean and fat tissue you have in your body? This is a PhD research study which aims to gain a better understanding of the relationships between fat and muscle in the body, and how these relationships are shaped in early development and may influence metabolic disease risk.

Quad lit Several measurements will allow us to assess body composition, including an MRI scan and measures of subjects' body density, body water content, and resting energy expenditure.

Joining the study will involve a visit to the UCL Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital which is minutes from Russell Square tube station and UCL main campus. The visit will take ~4 hours including a break for food. If more convenient, two separate, shorter visits can be arranged.

Those who take part will be reimbursed £30 for their time, as well as have food and drink provided for them when they visit the institute for measurements. Travel costs will be reimbursed.
