UCL Centre for Nature Inspired Engineering

Nature-Inspired Solutions MSc

The CNIE will offer an MSc course on Nature-Inspired Solutions.

The programme will be taught by CNIE academics and researchers from across UCL including, the Faculty of Engineering, the Division of Medicine, the Bartlett School of the Build Environment and the School of Pharmacy.

Students will acquire an understanding on how to learn from solutions adopted by nature to solve similar issues in real life problems. This is done by distilling the fundamental principles behind desirable features in the model natural system, and applying these to the technological system.

The programme aims to stimulate creative thought, lateral thinking, to come up with innovative solutions by using the systematic Nature Inspired Solutions methodology and use it in a wide context.

Taught modules, which will equip students with research and technical skills, are complemented with fieldwork at places like ZSL London Zoo or Kew Gardens to develop a deeper understanding of nature, its multitude of designs, phenomena, diversity and complexity – and the scope for applications of these.

Throughout the programme we will place particular emphasis on developing the students’ transferable and professional skills.

The course will use state of the art facilities at the UCL Bloomsbury and UCL East campuses.
