Approaching the Strang collection from a photographic standpoint I was immediately drawn to the intermediate prints. I am interested in photographic processes and could see how my current practice related to the in-between Turner landscape prints. These etchings demonstrate the physical processes carried out in producing the finished work; they are required and necessary in order to reach the final end print. I could see links between the etching process demonstrated and preserved in the Strang collection and my own photographic work. In much the same way I have been producing strip tests that are required to produce the final photograph.

These photographs show a ‘strip test’ expanded over several individual prints of the same negative. They demonstrate this similar method of working in a much stronger and clearer fashion when compared to the normal throw away test.
