Department News, November 2021 Part 2

1. Ben Millard passed his viva on the 25th October. His thesis, entitled "Stackings and One-Relator Products of Groups", was supervised by Lars Louder. Congratulations Dr Millard!

2. Grants:

a. Two successes from CORU: the ongoing project LAUNCHES, looking at congenital heart disease, has been extended with extra funding to autumn 2023; and a new project with Martin Utley, Luca Grieco and Sonya Crowe looking at cancer pathways in London has been successful.

b. Timo Betcke heard today that his Excalibur bid "SysGenX: Composable software generation for system-level simulation at Exascale" has been funded. It is around £3m in total, led by Cambridge.

3. Christina Pagel has been awarded the OR Society's esteemed "Companion of OR 2021".
